HC Deb 19 April 1988 vol 131 cc412-3W
Mr. Peter Griffiths

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if, in the light of the flotation of Vosper Thornycroft, and the price secured, Her Majesty's Government's policy remains that the compensation to the original shareholders was adequate, prompt and effective.

Mr. Maude

The recent flotation of Vosper Thornycroft is not material to the valuation of the business at the time it was nationalised. The Government's policy is still as was stated by the then Secretary of State for Industry on 7 August 1980, that there was no satisfactory way to alter the compensation terms imposed by the Aircraft and Shipbuilding Industries Act 1977.
