§ Mr. Peter BottomleyIt is estimated that over the first four years of this new approach the cost of surveying and treating the trunk road and motorway network will be £36 million. Thereafter it is estimated that the annual cost of continuing this policy will be approximately £2.5 million per annum. When the standard is fully implemented financial benefits from accident reductions on trunk roads will amount to £35 million a year, representing a return of £5 . 50 for every £1 spent.
