HC Deb 19 April 1988 vol 131 cc405-6W
Mr. McCrindle

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he is yet able to announce the formal arrangements for public safety zones at London City airport.

Mr. Channon

The London Docklands Development Corporation is today being informed of the arrangements for public safety zones. The Civil Aviation Authority is also making formal arrangements to safeguard the airport in respect of future building in the vicinity which could be a hazard to aircraft flying close to the airport. In accordance with normal practice, the arrangements allow for possible development of the airport over the next 12 to 15 years. But they do no more than keep open existing options for the time being: any such development would be subject to normal planning controls.
