To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will be taking steps to consult local organisations before making an appointment to the vacant chairmanship of Leeds western health authority; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 18 April 1988]: We are not required to consult anyone in appointing health authority chairmen. However, we take full account of any nominations we may receive from local or other sources.
