To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement concerning the future organisation and funding of higher and further education in inner London.

Mr. Jackson

The Government's intention is that from April 1989 the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council (PCFC) will have power to fund most non-university higher education in inner London, and that from April 1990 the responsibility for the provision of further education in inner London, and such non-university higher education as is not funded by the PCFC, will transfer from the Inner London education authority to the inner London councils.
