Mr. Blair

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he has considered ordering a section 432 investigation into the Guinness Group takeover of Bells; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maude

The inspectors appointed on 28 November 1986 to investigate the affairs and membership of Guinness may inquire into this matter to the extent that they consider necessary.

Mr. Blair

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will institute an inquiry into whether any two or more of(a) the following persons, Roger Seelig, Anthony Parnes, Lord Spens, David Mayhew, Gerald Ronson and Sir Jack Lyons and (b) the companies Morgan Grenfell or Cazenove have been involved jointly in any takeover other than Guinness's takeover of Distillers within the past five years.
