To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the level of self-sufficiency of Wales in each of the following products:(a) fish, (b) mutton and lamb, (c) poultrymeat, (d) beef, (e) oats, (f) cheese, (g) liquid milk, (h) barley, (i) potatoes, (j) pigmeat, (k) eggs, (l) wheat and (m) butter.

Estimates of the ratio of production to consumption in 1987 for each of the food products are given in the following table :

Estimates of production are based on figures from the Aggregate Net Income calculation and the Milk Marketing Board. Estimates of consumption are taken from the results of the national food survey, based on a small sample of 120 households in Wales and are therefore subject to some estimation error.
