§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe number of deaths in transport accidents in Great Britain during the period July 1986 to June 1987, the most recently available 12 months, was 5,860.
These statistics are obtained from death registration data and include all transport-related accidental deaths.
Approximately 95 per cent. of these accidents are accounted for by road accidents. The remaining accidents are accounted for by rail, sea and air accidents.
