HC Deb 18 April 1988 vol 131 c293W
79. Mr. John M. Taylor

To ask the Attorney-General if he will make a statement on the present backlog at land registries.

The Attorney-General

Applications for registration have more than doubled over the past five years and rapid growth continues. To meet the increased demand, some 1,745 new posts have been authorised since June 1987, four new offices are being opened and computerisation is being extended to all offices. It is hoped thereby to make rapid inroads into the backlog and to achieve target times for all transactions within the next two years.
