HC Deb 14 April 1988 vol 131 c231W
Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what representations he has received from Liverpool city council concerning defective dwellings, particularly Boot and Boswell-type houses; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will meet a delegation from Liverpool city council to discuss the problems of defective dwellings of Boot and Boswell-type houses.

Mrs. Roe

We have received various letters from Liverpool city council concerning its housing defects obligations, including one from the city solicitor about Boot and Boswell houses.

The Department's officials met council officers on 15 March for a full discussion. The council has also bid for a share of the £20 million reserve set aside nationally for 1988/89 for those authorities with particular HDA difficulties; decisions on the additional allocations will be made soon. In these circumstances we do not think that a delegation from the council is the best way forward. I will, however, write to the hon. Member with a copy of my officials' reply to the city solicitor.
