§ Mrs. Margaret EwingTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any plans to revise the Representation of the People Act 1983 to take account of the difficulties experienced by voluntary psychiatric patients who are required to record an address, other than the psychiatric hospital, for voting purposes.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggNo. Voluntary patients in psychiatric hospitals may register as electors in respect of any address with which they have been associated other than the hospital address. Guidance to psychiatric hospitals makes it clear that any former address is acceptable and that no voluntary patient need lose his vote for want of an address.
