HC Deb 13 April 1988 vol 131 c174W
Mr. Rathbone

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what consideration has been given to reclassifying amphetamines as class A drugs so as to ensure that illegal production, trafficking and supply of such drugs attracts the higher criminal penalties associated with such a category.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I have been asked to reply

Offences involving amphetamines in injectable form already attract the highest level of maximum penalties under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. We have no plans to reclassify other forms of amphetamines; trafficking in these attracts penalties of up to 14 years' imprisonment.
