§ Mr. EggarWe support in principle the creation of an Indian ocean zone of peace, and regularly participate in meetings of the United Nations ad hoc committee on the Indian ocean in New York. The security situation in the region, for example in the Gulf and Afghanistan, prevents the establishment of such a zone at this stage.
