§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Attorney-General when was the last occasion the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered the prosecution of an individual for falsely claiming to be a police officer.
§ The Attorney-GeneralNo separate records are kept by the Crown Prosecution Service of prosecutions brought under section 52 of the Police Act 1964. It would not therefore be possible to give an accurate answer to the hon. Member's question for the period since the inception of the Crown Prosecution Service in October 1986. Prior to that date the Prosecution of Offences Regulations 1978 did not require chief officers of police to report cases of personating a police officer to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
