§ Mr. AtkinsThe output of British manufacturing industry is expanding rapidly and the prospects for further growth are excellent. Since the trough of the recession at the beginning of 1981, the output of the manufacturing industries has increased by over 20 per cent. to reach a level of 111.5 in August 1987, based on 1980 equal to 100. This was 0.5 per cent. higher than the level of output in April 1979.
