HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 cc24-5W
18. Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received in favour of Welsh being included as a subject in the curriculum binding upon schools in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

We have received about 100 representations which refer to the position of the Welsh language within the national curriculum, of which approximately three-quarters favour the inclusion of Welsh as a core or foundation subject throughout Wales. We are still considering our response to these representations.
