HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 cc35-6W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment to what extent his discussion document, "An Outline National Response Plan: Incidents involving a release of radioactivity to the environment: Monitoring and Data Assessment" of July 1987 takes account of the advice given by the Meteorological Office in its annual report 1986, to the effect on the inclusion of Scotland in the network of weather radars provided for the rest of the United Kingdom and what would be the cost of such inclusion.

Mr. Moynihan

In formulating the national response plan it was acknowledged that weather radar would be helpful in identifying areas most likely to be affected by fall-out in rain. The programmes of the Scottish Office and the Ministry of Defence now provide for the installation of three weather radar stations in Scotland in the early 1990s.
