HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c133W
Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the number of crimes of violence against the person in Scotland (a) in the 12 months ended April 1981 and (b) in the most recent 12 months for which figures are available.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The figures are as follows:

  • May 1980 to April 1981: 9,050
  • July 1986 to June 1987: 14,110

For the purpose of this reply, the terms 'crimes of violence against the person' is taken to include all nonsexual crimes of violence—group 1 of the standard classification—apart from robbery, those crimes of indecency—group 2—which contain a violent element, and certain crimes involving malicious and reckless conduct.
