HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c22W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what deficit in the manufacturing trade the United Kingdom experienced with the European Economic Community in the most recent 12 month period for which figures are available; and what were the total figures of manufactured goods exported to and imported from the European Economic Community during that 12-month period.

Mr. Alan Clark

In the 12 months to September 1987, exports of manufactures to the European Community amounted to £27.7 billion and imports to £38.5 billion resulting in a crude deficit of £10.8 billion. These figures are on the overseas trade statistic basis: imports, but not exports, include the cost of insurance and freight.
