HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 cc137-8W
Mr. Wray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many students from countries other than Great Britain there are in Scottish universities and polytechnics.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

There are no polytechnics in Scotland: the nearest equivalents are the central institutions. In 1985–86 the numbers of students, including postgraduates, from countries other than Great Britain who attended Scottish universities and central institutions were 5,580 and 1,180 respectively.
