HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c46W
Mr. Wray

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he is seeking urgent talks with the Governments of the front-line states in southern Africa and with leaders of the opposition to apartheid.

Mrs. Chalker

We have regular contacts with the Governments of the front-line states and also with a wide range of opinion throughout southern Africa. The problems of southern Africa were also discussed at the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Vancouver.

Mr. Wray

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what new diplomatic steps he is proposing at European Community level in order to help end apartheid in South Africa.

Mrs. Chalker

We shall continue, with our European Community partners, to do all we can to promote dialogue between the parties in South Africa leading to fundamental peaceful change. Our goal remains the total abolition of apartheid as soon as possible.

Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what information he has about the use of the Seychelles by South Africa to circumvent trading restrictions imposed by Her Majesty's Government.

Mrs. Chalker

None.
