HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c177W
Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many appeals against decisions relating to single payments for those people in supplementary benefit are currently being dealt with by the local offices serving (a) Scotland and (b) Strathclyde region; and what were the comparable numbers for June 1985 and June 1986.

Mr. Portillo

It is regretted that not all of the information requested is readily available. For Scotland as a whole the latest figures for single payment appeals at local offices awaiting submission to social security appeal tribunals are as follows:

Number
June 1985 1,047
June 1986 2,081
December 1986 6,176

Statistics about types of decision appealed against are not collected below regional level. Information specific to Strathclyde area could therefore only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
