HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 cc144-5W
Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if the decision by the Scottish Tourist Board to give financial assistance to the redevelopment of Butlins holiday centre at Ayr was subject to ministerial approval; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

Ministerial approval was given to the Scottish tourist board's financial assistance of £1.2 million to the re-development of the Butlin's site at the Heads of Ayr. Investment decisions of this scale demonstrate growing confidence in the tourism industry in Scotland. The private sector commitment is essential if such developments are to proceed. The government is pleased to be able to bring such projects—with clear economic benefits—to fruition with financial support through the Scottish tourist board.

Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he last met the chairman of the Scottish Tourist Board: and what subjects were discussed.

Mr. Lang

My right hon. and learned Friend last met the Chairman of the Scottish tourist board at Scotland's travel fair on 6 May. My noble Friend the Minister of State regularly meets the chairman to discuss tourism policy and strategic issues of importance to the industry.

Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the members of the Scottish Tourist Board, stating the date of their original appointment, the date of their present appointment and when their current term of office expires.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Mr. Norman Hogg
