HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c143W
Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what inquiries are currently being undertaken by his Department concerning the promotion of sport in schools.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

I have encouraged the Scottish Sports Council to promote new sporting opportunities for school children and to give a new impetus to competitive sport. I hope the seminar on this subject which they are organising on 28 October will be well supported and followed through by education and sporting bodies.

Mr. Norman Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what arrangements he has made for liaison between his Department, the education authorities and the Scottish Sports Council for the promotion of sport; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Promoting sport is primarily a matter for the Scottish Sports Council. Arrangements for liaison between the Scottish Office, the Council and the many other bodies concerned with sport, including the education authorities, are kept under continual review.
