Mr. Sean Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information he has as to the number of school leavers from the borough of Knowsley attending full-time degree courses at university in each year from 1976 to 1986; and if he will express these figures as a proportion of the number of students in secondary education in the borough of Knowsley for each of these years.

The table below covers all students who where in receipt of a mandatory or a full value discretionary award from the Knowsley local education authority and who are estimated to have been on first degree courses at university excluding teacher training. The table also relates the numbers of such students newly taking up an award to an average of the 18 and 19 year old population in Knowsley.
