HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c14W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Attorney-General what guidance the Lord Chancellor has sent to magistrates in England and Wales on sentencing policy for offenders convicted of salmon poaching since the passing of the Salmon Act 1986; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

The Lord Chancellor does not issue guidance on the sentencing to magistrates but when speaking to members of the Magistrates' Association, of which he is the president, he may in that capacity express his personal view on the approach to sentencing for particular types of offence. Since the passing of the Salmon Act 1986, the Lord Chancellor has not spoken to magistrates on the sentencing of offenders convicted of salmon poaching.
