HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c136W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what is his policy regarding attendance by hon. Members at ministerial engagements in their constituencies;

(2) what constituencies he and his junior Ministers have visited in the past year; and on which occasions the local hon. Member was invited to attend;

(3) what is his practice regarding the arrangements for notifying hon. Members that he or one of his Ministers is to visit their constituency; and what period of notice is normally given.

Mr. Rifkind

My ministerial colleagues and I aim to visit all parts of Scotland as regularly as opportunities arise and other ministerial commitments permit. Attendance at ministerial engagements, wherever they take place, is a matter for Ministers and their hosts. Hon. Members are however normally informed, and are given reasonable notice, whenever Ministers are attending public engagements within their constituencies.
