asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many laboratories there are doing National Health Service medical tests, and of what classification

(2) how many National Health Service medical and test laboratories there are.

There were 385 NHS laboratories in England in 1986. The number of such laboratories undertaking work in each main specialty in 1985 (the latest year for which information was available) was:
