HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 cc111-2W
Mr. Wray

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he last held talks with representatives of Scottish tenants' associations, housing co-operatives, Scottish housing associations and local authorities in order to discuss housing in Scotland.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Both my right hon. and learned Friend and I have frequent discussions and informal meetings with a wide range of bodies involved in housing. Last month we met representatives of SSHA tenants and earlier this month I, myself, held meetings with COSLA and representatives of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations to discuss housing matters. I have also visited a number of housing co-operatives, housing associations and local authorities.

Mr. Nigel Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will instruct local authorities to prepare estimates of the required housebuilding programme for warden-serviced sheltered housing for the elderly between 1988 and 1993.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

No.

Mr. Nigel Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will ensure that health boards, housing authorities and social work departments make adequate provision for the provision of housing in the community for people who are mentally handicapped, mentally ill, elderly or disabled.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The provision of housing for these groups is a matter for the agencies concerned having regard to their own assessments of local needs and priorities and available finance. For their part the Government have increased the general allocations of money available to local authorities and to health boards. In addition specific funding for housing for the disabled is made available to the Housing Corporation.

Mr. Nigel Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will give the total new housebuilding starts by Scottish councils in each year from 1977 to 1987;

(2) if he will give the total new housebuilding starts by Scottish housing associations in each year from 1977 to 1987;

(3) if he will give the average house prices in Scotland in each year from 1977 to 1987.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The information requested for the years 1977 to 1986 was published in "Scottish Housing Statistics 1986" which is available in the House Library. Details for 1987 are not yet available.
