HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c164W
Mr. Wray

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many National Health Service hospitals have been built and put into operation since 1975.

Mrs. Currie

Hospitals are normally built in stages, comprising a series of individual building schemes. Information held centrally shows that in England since 1975, 308 National Health Service hospital building schemes, each costing over £1 million, have been completed and brought into operation. National Health Service building elsewhere in the United Kingdom is the responsibility of my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, and my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Wales and for Northern Ireland.
