HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c16W
Mr. Alex Carlile

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has received any representations concerning siting of gun shops; if he has any proposals for the introduction of regulations concerning their siting, and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Representations have been received from time to time about the sale of firearms in particular locations. The Firearms Act 1968 contains no provisions relating to the siting of gun shops, which is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment.

It does, however, contain strict provisions for the registration and control of firearms dealers and a chief officer may refuse to register an applicant if he is satisfied that the applicant cannot be permitted to carry on business without danger to the public safety or to the peace.
