§ Mr. Michael ForsythEducational establishments in Scotland have been successful in attracting funds in the first round of the European programme for co-operation between education and industry in training for technology—COMETT—and I look forward to significant further funds in the next round.
I have ensured that all establishments of higher education in Scotland will be fully informed of the opportunities in the new programme to encourage mobility for students within the European Community—ERASMUS—and they have been invited by the ERASMUS bureau of the European Community to make application for inclusion of their courses in the scheme.
The European Community also offers funds in a range of research and development programmes, in which Scottish educational establishments have been actively encouraged to participate.
I shall continue to seek to attract European Community support for higher education in Scotland in these programmes and in further European Community initiatives which may be relevant.
