HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c24W
19. Mr. Livsey

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make it his policy to stop the authorisation of the sale of Craig-y-nos Castle by his Department, until he can guarantee the continuation of cultural activities there.

Mr. Peter Walker

Craig-y-nos Castle has a grade II* listing. It has been put to me that this may be correct for the main building, but that the theatre should have a higher listing. I have looked into this and decided that the theatre should indeed be listed grade I, but that the remainder of the building should be listed as grade II.

It is important that this hospital should be sold so that the resources released can be made available for the benefit of patient care in the Health Service. I hope that when it is put up for sale with this revised listing a purchaser will be found who can make effective use of this very important building.
