HC Deb 26 October 1987 vol 121 c195W
Mr. Fatchett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) whether he will ask for a report for Leeds Eastern health authority on the resources available for treating children cancer patients at St. James hospital, Leeds; and if he will make a statement;

(2) whether he will meet the chairman of Yorkshire regional health authority and Leeds Eastern health authority to discuss the funding of the treatment of children cancer patients at St. James hospital, Leeds; and if he will make a statement;

(3) whether he has any plans to make more resources available to Leeds Eastern health authority in order to assist the care of children cancer patients at St. James hospital, Leeds.

Mr. Battle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will establish an inquiry into the adequacy of resources for the treatment of children cancer patients in St. James hospital, Leeds.

Mrs. Currie

Responsibility for the allocation of resources to Yorkshire district health authorities, including Leeds Eastern, rests with Yorkshire regional health authority. Matters of this kind are for the respective authorities to resolve. The funding of paediatric oncology services must, however, be considered in the context of other services in Yorkshire. I understand that the Yorkshire regional health authority is currently reviewing funding arrangements for services which cover more than one district. This will include paediatric oncology.
