HC Deb 23 October 1987 vol 120 c910W
Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he last met the chairman of the Liverpool health authority; what subjects were discussed; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

I met the Chairman of Liverpool health authority, Mr. James Fitzpatrick, in the House on 7 July this year and discussed at length problems arising from cervical cytology screening at The Women's hospital, Liverpool, between March 1983 and December 1985.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was chairman of the independent review into the incident and his review team is to be commended for producing such a thorough report. Its findings are being taken into account in the circular on cervical cancer screening to be published shortly.
