§ Mr. Chris PattenIn 1986 approximately 13,000 contracts were placed in the United Kingdom as a result of the bilateral aid programme. Expenditure on British goods and services amounted to £750 million. Procurement of British goods and services on projects and programmes funded by the multilateral aid agencies amounted to approximately £600 million. It has been estimated that the aid programme directly supports about 75,000 jobs in the United Kingdom each year.
