§ Mr. PatnickTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals he has to reduce the detour for traffic using the M62 between south Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyA study has just been completed into the feasibility of providing a new link road from the M1 south of Wakefield to the M62 east of Huddersfield. We are at present considering the results.
It is too early to predict the outcome. If we can identify an economically viable scheme it will be considered for inclusion in the next review of the national roads programme.
