§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress has been made in safeguarding the position of severely disabled people who would have been eligible for additional payments under the existing social security legislation but who will not be entitled to such benefits under the new legislation if their first application is made after April 1988.
§ Mr. ScottThe Office of Population Censuses and Surveys has undertaken a major survey into the numbers,182W needs and circumstances of disabled people, the first results of which will be published next year. Furthermore, the arrangments for the community care of severely disabled people and others, are currently under review by Sir Roy Griffiths. I understand that he intends to present his recommendations to the Secretary of State early in the new year. The effect of the income support scheme on the disabled will be considered in the light of these reports.
