It is not our practice to reveal contract prices which remain a matter of confidence between the Department and the contractor. However, the overall value of the construction programmes listed above is approximately £20 million.

In addition, minor works valued at £1.71 million were undertaken between April 1978 and March 1987.

Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he expects construction of the integrated weapons complex at the Royal Naval armament depot, Beith, to be completed.

Mr. Sainsbury

There are no integrated weapons complexes under construction at Royal Naval armament depot, Beith. Two have been provided, the last one being completed in November 1986.

Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) if he will make a statement on the role of the Royal Naval armament depot, Beith, in the Spearfish torpedo programme;

(2) if he will list the functions and activities of the Royal Naval armament depot, Beith.

Mr. Sainsbury

Royal Naval armament depot, Beith stores, maintains and supplies a range of missiles, torpedoes and ammunition for Her Majesty's ships and submarines. This will include Spearfish when it enters service.
