§ Mr. CartwrightTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department why it took his Department 10 months to reach a decision on the application of Mrs. Tehreem56W Saif Khan to join her husband in the United Kingdom; and when she may expect a decision on her husband's application that she be allowed to come to Britain to marry under English law.
§ Mr. RentonIn order to resolve Mrs. Khan's first application, it was necessary to interview her husband; this interview took place on 12 March 1987. The time subsequently taken to reach a decision was due to pressure of work in the immigration department. Mrs. Khan's new application to join Mr. Khan will require an interview in Islamabad; I have asked the entry clearance officer to reach his decision as soon as possible.
