§ Mr. O'BrienTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1) if he has any plans to introduce legislation to prohibit the advertisement, sale, importation or manufacture of furniture made of those materials which are inherently dangerous; and if he will make a statement;
(2) if he has any plans to introduce legislation for the permanent display of a safety classification system on furniture, in a form easily understandable by consumers; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MaudeIn reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Gloucester (Mr. French) on 6 November I promised a statement in December about responses to consultation on the code of practice for upholstered furniture. The points raised in the two questions will be covered by that statement and in more detail by the draft regulations which I shall circulate for consultation as soon as possible in the new year.
