HC Deb 18 November 1987 vol 122 cc595-6W
52. Mr. Michael Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what support his Department affords to the British group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Mr. Eggar

We fully support the activities of the British group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. For example, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office provides written and oral background briefing in connection with inward and outward visits; and our posts overseas provide whatever support may be required by IPU delegations. An FCO official attends the IPU spring and autumn conferences as an adviser to the British group.

We value the contribution of the IPU to the improvement of international and bilateral relations.
