§ Mr. EggarWe believe that the Soviet Union should withdraw its army of occupation from Afghanistan and let the Afghan people determine their own future. My right hon. and learned Friend raised the issue of Afghanistan most recently when he spoke to the Soviet ambassador on 1 September. My noble Friend the Minister of State set out our position in a statement to the United Nations General Assembly on 10 November, when the UNGA voted 123–19–11 in favour of a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.
