§ Mr. McAllionTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the cost of compiling the new community charge register in Scotland for 1987–88 and of the annual costs of. updating that register in subsequent years.
§ Mr. Lang[holding answer 16 November 1987]: The community charges register will be compiled in 1988–89. My right hon. and learned Friend has estimated that expenditure of up to £9 million will be incurred in that year on the establishment of the register and preparation of new billing and collection systems, and that the additional cost of administering the new system in a full year thereafter will be in the range of £17 million to £22 million.
