To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he will provide the total number of persons in the private rented sector, excluding housing associations, by region and for Scotland as a whole, in the years from 1981 to 1986 inclusive;

(2) if he will provide the total number of dwellings in the private rented sector, excluding housing associations, by region and for Scotland as a whole, in the years from 1981 to 1986 inclusive;

(3) if he will provide the total number of households in the private rented sector, excluding housing associations, by region and for Scotland as a whole, in the years from 1981 to 1986 inclusive.

The information requested on the number of persons and households in the private rented sector is not available ; and the number of dwellings in the private sector is available only for Scotland as a whole. Estimates for 1981 to 1986 inclusive were published in table 9.3 of "Housing and Construction Statistics 1976–1986", a copy of which is available in the Library.
