To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many full-time doctors, nurses and ancillary staff have been employed by the National Health Service in Scotland for each year since 1979.

[holding answer 26 October 1987]: The information is as follows for full-time doctors, qualified nurses and ancillary staff (mainly porters and domestic staff) employed by the NHS in Scotland at 30 September in each year. Doctors holding maximum part-time appointments in hospitals are included. General medical practitioners are excluded.
