To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he has any plans to increase the number of health and safety inspections; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

The Government's allocation of resources for 1988–89 to the Health and Safety Commission, together with some revision of current priorities, will allow the Health and Safety Executive's factory inspectorate to increase the number of inspections above the level planned for 1987–88.
