HC Deb 17 November 1987 vol 122 cc543-5W
Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the generating capacity of(a) the South of Scotland electricity board and (b) the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board on the latest available figures; how this compares with the level of domestic consumption in these areas; and what are the corresponding figures for each of the last eight years.

Mr. Lang

[holding answer 16 November 1987]: The information, provided by the Scottish electricity boards, is set out in the table. However, it should be noted that meaningful comparisons cannot readily be drawn between generating capacity and annual consumption by domestic electricity users. Although the capacity figures are given separately for each board, their generating plant is operated on a merit order basis under the joint generating agreement.
