§ Mrs. ClwydTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he makes of the safety with which Chilean exiles may return to their homeland, in the light of the detention on 3 September of former refugees in Britain Luis Tricot and Rocio Reyes, and the subsequent alleged torture of Senor Tricot.
§ Mr. EggarWe are aware of the practical difficulties faced by Chileans who are now returning to their own country, and of the concern felt in the United Kingdom for their security. I conveyed these concerns to the Chilean Foreign Minister of 23 October 1987. Her Majesty's368W ambassador is in regular touch with returnees from the United Kingdom. We have made representations on behalf of the Irish Government about Senor Tricot's case.
