§ Ms. RuddockTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will raise in the United Nations Security Council the breaches of human rights, the intimidation of voters and the murder of Mr. Bedor in Belau; and if he will raise with the United States Government their obligation under the United Nations Trusteeship Council to promote the development of the inhabitants to self-government and independence and protect them against the loss of their lands and resources.
§ Mr. EggarThe compact of free association which will terminate Palau's trusteeship status was approved by public referendum in Palau on 21 August. The referendum was observed by a United Nations team of observers. Several weeks after the vote there was some violence and a murder in Palau. The United States has registered its firm opposition to this violence and is assisting the Palau Government in investigations. In these circumstances we see no need to raise the matter with the United States Government.
